Medical Science Graduate Program Scholarship
University of Alberta provides 10-15 Medical Science Graduate Program Scholarships worth $6,500 each to the full-time registered students who pursue MSc or PhD in Medical Sciences Graduate Program (MSGP) in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry. Awards are paid monthly over 12 months.

Eligibility criteria
In order to avail Medical Science Graduate Program Scholarship, students must fulfill the following criteria:
- Students must register themselves as a full-time thesis based graduate student (MSc or PhD) in one of the following departments in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry:
- Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine
- Dentistry
- Medical Genetics
- Obstetrics & Gynecology
- Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences
- Pediatrics
- Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging
- The student may not concurrently hold any major awards ($13,000 or greater), or any other stipend award from the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry (e.g. 75th Anniversary Award, FoMD/AHS Student Recruitment Studentships, Motyl Graduate Studentship).
- Students can avail this award more than once.
How to apply for Medical Science Graduate Program Scholarship
- Submit a completed current application form with all required signatures.
- The student’s up-to-date transcripts in letter size unofficial and copies of original are acceptable as long as they are copied to letter size 8 1/2 x 11).
- Must include current UofA transcript even if there are no grades yet. Unofficial ones are acceptable.
- Two confidential letters of reference which should be received in a signed and sealed envelope, or e-mailed directly to fmdgrd@ualberta.ca.
Deadlines: A complete application is to be submitted electronically to fmdgrd@ualberta.ca, as ONE PDF, by Friday, January 11, 2021, at noon. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Medical Library Association Scholarship is offered annually by University of Alberta to a student who demonstrates potential for accomplishment in health sciences librarianship. The eligible student must be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada or the U.S.

Medical Research Awards
The Medical Research Awards are offered by University of Alberta to foster research opportunities for undergraduate students enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. Approximately 20 awards up to $4,800 each are payable over four months.
Eligibility criteria:
Candidates must be continuing undergraduate students participating in a research project during the summer months of May – August. General research to specified areas of cardiovascular, surgical, and cancer research are available.
List of Medical Summer Research Awards:
- Elliot Gelfand Summer Studentship:
This award is available in the field of cardiovascular research during the summer months (May to August).
Students must be nominated by a faculty member who agrees to undertake supervision of the nominee during the summer. Nominations should be forwarded by the faculty member to the Director, Cardiothoracic Surgery.
- Vessie Heckbert Memorial Research Award:
This award is available in the fields of cancer-related or other health sciences projects. Application or nomination should be done to the Dean of Medicine and Dentistry.
- Dr ME Ledingham Memorial Research Award:
Preference will be given to a project in the field of Continuing Medical Education. Application or nomination should be done to the Dean of Medicine and Dentistry.
- David and Beatrice Reidford Research Scholarships:
It is awarded annually to a student in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. Application or nomination should be done to the Dean of Medicine and Dentistry.
- Wynne Rigal Summer Award:
It is awarded annually to a promising student in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry who wishes to do a research project in surgery. Application or nomination should be done to the Dean of Medicine and Dentistry.
- Edna Wakefield Rowe Memorial Research Award:
It is awarded annually to a medical student who wishes to do a research project in medicine. Preference will be given to a project in cancer research.
- Dorothy Jean Usher Memorial Summer Research Award:
It is awarded annually to a medical student who wishes to do a research project in medicine. Preference will be given to a project in the study of leukemia.

The CMA Foundation is providing annual funding to every medical school in Canada for an $8,500 bursary and a $15,000 award. To be awarded annually to a first year medical student achieving the highest performance in Pulmonary Medicine.

To be awarded annually to a student completing the final year in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of Family Medicine.
- Dr Peter Aylen Memorial Scholarship in Family Practice:
To be awarded annually on the basis of excellent academic achievement to a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident entering the Faculty of Medicine in the field of Family Practice.
- Emma Bailey Memorial Award
Awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing convocating with a degree in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.
- Dr Sigurd Balfour Scholarship in Medicine
Selection based on academic standing and demonstrated excellence in the cardiology component of the Cardiovascular Pulmonary and Renal Course.
- Betty Drury Scholarship for Excellence in Musculoskeletal Medicine
Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement in the area of musculoskeletal medicine.
- Rose Bogoch Prize in Ophthalmology
Awarded annually to a convocating Student in the field of Ophthalmology.
- AE Bowie Scholarship in Medicine
Awarded annually to a student showing particular interest in diseases of the ear or intending to specialize in that field.

To be offered to a student entering first year Medicine, on the basis of academic standing.

Awarded annually to a student for superior academic achievement in third and fourth year Surgery.

- Allan Jay Solomon Award:
A fund of $2000 is awarded annually to students in the field of the undergraduate course in Medicine.
- Anjna Majhail Entrance Bursary

- Heller Family Entrance Scholarship:

- All MD/PhD students of University of British Columbia receive an annual student stipend through the MD/PhD Program (minimum annual stipend $21,000, renewable each year for a maximum of 6 years). There are two main Bursary opportunities available for qualifying MD students offered annually by University of Manitoba:
- University of Manitoba General Bursary Application (MPAS & MD students)

Quest University Fully-Funded David Strangway International Scholarships:
Scholarships are available for pursuing the undergraduate programme and are awarded to study the subjects offered by the university. It will provide full tuition for four years which cover accommodation fee, book allowance, and other expenses.
